Bedford Place Southampton is north of the city centre and has the atmosphere of a bygone era, in what is probably the last bastion of small independent quality businesses in the City of Southampton all caring establishments that like to look after their clients.
Bedford Place has a chemist, designer clothes and shoe shops, health care professionals and not forgetting the specialists i.e. picture framing, professional body sugaring (waxing) , an acupuncturist, a chiropractor, a tattooist, osteopaths, a wine specialist, shoe repairs and shoe fitting, and more but whatever your need, we think you will find all you could possibly need in our little street. Please click on the stores tab for more information. There has sadly been some shop closures of late but also some new shops and cafes too. We we are endeavoring to update the site Spring 2016.
Did you know we have 10 minutes free parking in the street on the metered bays only, so if you need to nip into to collect a prescription or get a picture framed then pull up outside and pop in to one of the specialist shops. The night time parking has now been changed, and the flat rate of £2 has been dropped on the street parking but still remains in the main car parks, so watch out for that, don’t get caught out ! You still have to pay to park at night.
Step off your cruse ship and visit this tucked away little place, you will be surprised with what you find.
Bedford Place Vintage Family Festival – there will be no festival in 2016
On Sunday 22nd June 2014, the traders celebrated 50 years of Southampton’s city status by raising money to throw their 1st fantastic street party with the Hampshire Farmers Market.
The car park was filled with vintage stalls and the Hampshire Farmers Market lined the street with their first ever market here. The sun shone and the Lindy Club hopped all day to the fabulous sounds of the Still Moving DJ’s, playing music of a forgotten era some on 78’s on wind up gramophones. The Southampton & District Transport Heritage Trust brought along the 1976 Saints bus and there were replica scooters from the Quadrophenia film.
The public joined in and the day is still being talked about, the main consensus of the day was “please do it again” ~ so yes of course we will, and the 2nd one took place on Sunday 21st June, 2015. Sorry but there is no festival in 2016.
Thank you to Devernois, Sugarflick, & Shay Bridal ~ the 3 businesses that got the 1st one together & made it happen. Also a huge thank you to Alex of the Hampshire Farmers Market for her support and bringing so many lovely stalls to our little street. You can go here to have a look at the pics of the 1st even in 2014.
